What Was That!

Why is it that so many people today are living a Spirit-less life? There are many reasons, but we want to just look at two briefly.

Reason#1: Some people aren’t even aware of the Holy Spirit.

Now, it happened that while Apollos was away in Corinth, Paul made his way down through the mountains, came to Ephesus, and happened on some disciples there. The first thing he said was, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?” “We’ve never even heard of that—a Holy Spirit? God within us?”  Acts 19:1-3 (MSG)

Reason #2: Some people are simply resisting the Holy Spirit.

And you continue, so bullheaded! Calluses on your hearts, flaps on your ears! Deliberately ignoring the Holy Spirit, you’re just like your ancestors. Acts 7:51 (MSG)

How we know when the Holy Spirit is near…

  1. Holy Spirit will comfort you.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— John 14:16 (Amplified Bible)

  1. Holy Spirit will guide you.

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. John 16:13

  1. Holy Spirit will convict you

And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. John 16:8 (NLT)

Super Men (and their Kryptonite)

Men are like waffles

Women are like spaghetti

Four things men need to be aware of…

  1. Taking family time for granted

Husbands, go all out in your love for your wives, exactly as Christ did for the church—a love marked by giving, not getting. Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives. Ephesians 5:25-27 (MSG)

  1.  Sexual temptation

No one abuses his own body, does he? No, he feeds and pampers it. That’s how Christ treats us, the church, since we are part of his body. And this is why a man leaves father and mother and cherishes his wife. No longer two, they become “one flesh.” Ephesians 5:29-31 (MSG)

  1. Demanding respect

This is a huge mystery, and I don’t pretend to understand it all. What is clearest to me is the way Christ treats the church. And this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband. Ephesians 5:32-33 (MSG)

  1. Underestimating our spiritual responsibility.

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)

For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, 12 encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 (NIV)
