The Truth about Demons

Some truths we need to know…

Truth #1: Satan was the originator of sin

Those who make a practice of sin are straight from the Devil, the pioneer in the practice of sin. The Son of God entered the scene to abolish the Devil’s ways. 1 John 3:8 (The Message)

Truth #2: Demons try to destroy God’s work

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 1 Timothy 4:1

Truth #3: Demons have limited power

So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. James 4:7 (MSG)

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Dealing with demons…

  1. Never treat the enemy lightly

Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. Acts 19:16

  1. Never flirt with darkness

Don’t practice divination, sorcery, fortune-telling, witchery, casting spells, holding seances, or channeling with the dead. People who do these things are an abomination to God. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (MSG)

  1. Never fight with your own power

Jesus called twelve of his followers and sent them into the ripe fields. He gave them power to kick out the evil spirits and to tenderly care for the bruised and hurt lives. Matthew 10:1 (MSG)

The Truth about Angels

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Hebrews 13:2

Common Myths about Angels….

Myth #1: The cute baby myth

Myth #2: The loved one myth

Myth #3: The blond, blue eyed myth

Three Truths about Angels…

Truth #1: Angels are worshipers

But when God brought His first-born Son, Jesus, into the world, He said, “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” Hebrews 1:6 (NLV)

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

Revelation 5:11-12

Truth #2: Angels are warriors

That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. 2 Kings 19:35

Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. Revelation 12:7

Truth #3: Angels are messengers

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” Judges 6:12

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. Luke 1:30-31

The Struggle is Real

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

Two mistakes we make regarding the unseen…

Mistake #1: An overemphasis on the unseen

Mistake #2: An under emphasis on the unseen

Four things we need to know about the unseen world:

  1. There is a war going on in the unseen world.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

  1. There is a real enemy scheming against us.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (New Living Translation)

  1. We have protection against attack.

So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. Ephesians 6:11 (The Message)

  1. We are never alone in our battle.

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:15-17

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen?

Romans 8:31-33 (The Message)
